In 2008 and 2009, the Workplace Project developed our first civic participation initiative consisting of :

  • Voter mobilization (GOTV)
  • Leadership developement and ongoing community outreach
  • Voter registration

All of this was done in collaboration with a Civic Engagement Initiative together with LIIA, Carecen, ACORN, Long Island Civic Participation Project, NALEO (National Association of Latino and Elected Officials) and others. Our members, staff and volunteers registred hundreds of voters and mobilized thousends to go to the polls, who were mostly first time or infriquent Latino Voters.

CENSUS 2010

This year as part of the our civic engament work, we have established a campaign to ensure Latino participation in the Census. Many latino individuals due to fear and lack of information about the Census’ confidentiality will not be counted by their landlords or will not fill the form that has been mailed to them. Therefore, the Organization will act as a Counting center offering help with filling the form, and several events to raise awareness about the importance for the Latino community to be counted.
