Workplace Project

Leadership Development & Community Education

At the Workplace Project, we are convinced that to achieve a change in the balance of power in this society, the first and most important step is the education of the workers.  Through our trainings, courses and presentations the workers and the members of the organization obtain the tools necessary to be their own spokespeople, to develop organizing skills through direct participation and to lead our organization and our community.

These goals are accomplished by:

Leadership Courses

  • Using the model of popular education, this course analyzes the ideas and issues that allow for a better understanding of our reality as immigrants.

Gender Equality

  • Our emphasis is on creating a just society for all, putting an end to all forms of exploitation.  The equality of men and women workers is essential in the achieving of this goal.

Know your rights trainings

  • The most common violations which affect immigrant workers are violations of their most basic rights as workers.  These sessions focus on educating workers about these rights and how to defend them.

Labor Rights Course

  • In these courses we educate the participants about health and security issues, discrimination, sexual harassment in the workplace, on the job accidents, etc.

Community Issues

  • An important part of the integration of immigrant workers into their new setting is the understanding of the social dynamic of the place where they now live. To this end, we do a series of presentations on issues of community interest such as discrimination, your rights when approached by the police, immigration law and many others.

Civic participation

  • The political participation and involvement of the immigrant community.
  • Voter mobilization (GOTV)
  • Voter registration
