<p>Groups across the country will be holding marches and rallies on Saturday May 1, calling for reform of the nation&#8217;s broken immigration system and an end to the raids and repression that are terrorizing immigrants and their families.</p>
<p>In Hempstead, the march will begin at the corner of Front St, and North Franklin St. at 11 am. The march will go at 12 noon to a parking lot on Washington between Fulton and Front and the rally will last until about 2:30pm. Buses will be leaving to join the march in Manhattan. If you are interested in reserving your seat, please call the Workplace Project at 516-565-5377.  The price is $15 per ticket, just to cover the costs of the bus.</p>

The marchers were demanding comprehensive immigration reform, an immediate moratorium for inhumane immigration raids, and an end to the criminalization of the immigrant community. Marchers brought signs saying &#8221; President Obama, if you want my vote, keep your promises and sign an immigration reform bill&#8221; &#8220;Legalization is the solution&#8221; and others.</p>
<p>Speakers included prominent union leaders, such as Eliseo Medina of SEIU,  television reporter Geraldo Rivera, and Congressman Luis Gutierrez (well recognized as a fierce advocate for immigrants). The President responded to the massive rally immediately, sending a surprise video to the marchers, which can be seen <a href="http://www.whitehouse.gov/photos-and-video/video/president-obamas-message-immigration-marchers">here</a>.</p>
